Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Discover an exceptional opportunity in the field of Ophthalmology

Join a dedicated team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during a transformative period for our Ophthalmology services. The challenges posed by recent global events have inspired us to innovate and enhance our patient care approaches. We are seeking a skilled ophthalmic nurse to contribute to our mission of providing outstanding care through a collaborative and supportive environment.

Our department prides itself on fostering a cohesive nursing team that works seamlessly with both clinical and non-clinical staff across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

As our ideal candidate, you will be a remarkable nurse with leadership experience at band 5 or higher, possessing comprehensive knowledge and expertise in managing patients with ocular conditions. You will serve as a role model, delivering exemplary care while mentoring junior staff and participating in service enhancement initiatives.

We encourage applicants to hold an ophthalmology-specific post-registration qualification or to be actively pursuing one.

Your qualifications will empower you to effectively provide exceptional care in areas such as:

  • Pre-operative evaluations
  • Nurse-led outpatient clinical services
  • Guiding and supporting junior staff and students
  • Collaborating with the Ophthalmic Multidisciplinary Team
  • Contributing to advancements in service delivery within the specialty.

About Our Organization

We are committed to the professional growth and education of our staff, having invested considerable resources into developing specialized nursing roles. Additionally, we offer a successful Level 7 Post-Graduate Certificate in Advanced Patient-Centered Ophthalmology Care in partnership with a recognized university.

The Oxford Eye Hospital is a bustling outpatient facility, managing over 106,000 patient visits annually across a wide range of ophthalmology clinics, including emergency services and pre-operative assessments. Our team consists of over 45 professionals, including specialist nurses, nursing assistants, and other support staff. You will receive guidance from the Clinical Unit Manager and be encouraged to pursue your professional development as an Ophthalmic Nurse and leader.

We are open to considering candidates seeking part-time opportunities; many of our staff work compressed hours, but we are flexible in discussing various working arrangements.

Job Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is to:

  • Oversee and coordinate the provision of evidence-based care to a designated group of patients within the department, while exemplifying best practices.
  • Conduct telephone triage for patients experiencing ophthalmic emergencies.
