Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified clinical psychologist to join two teams at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The first team is a specialist CAMHS service with a focus on neurodevelopmental assessment and intervention, as well as paediatric psychology. The post holder will contribute to ADHD and ASC assessment and intervention, oversee referral pathways and audits, and work alongside a band 8a clinical psychologist. This role also involves working with children, young people, and families living with acute and chronic medical conditions who are seen within paediatrics at the Royal Free Hospital, requiring inpatient and outpatient assessment and intervention as needed. The post holder will also supervise an assistant psychologist in terms of family liaison and database maintenance.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment to patients with childhood mental health problems, including outpatient and inpatient settings. They will also work with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. The post holder will need to have an interest in, and some experience in working with children with chronic health problems. The role involves 5 sessions in both services and supervision from senior clinical psychologists.

About Us

The CAMHS service is based in a large hospital in the centre of Hampstead and is a welcoming and supportive team. The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, and dieticians. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work with a team that has won Clinical Team of the Year in 2024, with a focus on delivering excellent patient outcomes.

Person Specification
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence. Eligible for Chartership as a clinical Psychologist (BPS)
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience of working within a clinical psychology service with patients with childhood mental health problems, providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients, including outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience in data collection, audit, service evaluation and research methods
  • Experienced in oral presentations, working with people in groups
Skills and Aptitudes
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • Knowledge of relevant theoretical models and psychological interventions relevant to the needs of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders, physical health conditions and/or childhood mental health problems
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. This would involve using easy to understand language to convey psychological ideas and assumptions
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and quantitative data analysis as practiced within the field of psychology.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks in relation to the patient group
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
