About the Retail Media Team

The Retail Media team is dedicated to enhancing capabilities that provide substantial benefits to Tesco, our customers, and our partners.

By creating and managing media opportunities within essential online experiences, we aim to inspire our customers, offer suppliers a platform to connect with relevant audiences, and ultimately drive profitability for Tesco.

To date, we have successfully established robust media capabilities that have resulted in significant growth in media revenue from online channels, with plans to further expand this in the future.

To achieve our goals, we are focused on enhancing and maturing our media capabilities, both in terms of user experience and our ability to monitor and improve performance.

Role Overview:

As a Technical Project Manager, you will oversee complex, cross-functional technology initiatives that support our teams and enhance customer service. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, influence product and engineering teams, and lead projects to deliver value efficiently and effectively.

While specific responsibilities may evolve based on the needs of the business, the following outlines the key responsibilities and expectations for this role:

  • Lead and manage programs with multiple business and technical risks that are critical to achieving Tesco's strategic objectives.
  • Oversee development resources, influence technical direction, and coordinate the creation of technology and business-facing products.
  • Define and monitor performance metrics against customer and business KPIs.
  • Manage risks and issues while influencing dependent teams.
  • Establish or enhance delivery methodologies to meet program objectives.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive plan to achieve program goals, including technical implementation and stakeholder communication.
  • Understand delivery trade-offs and leverage experience to drive consensus among business, technology, and engineering teams.
  • Anticipate potential risks and issues, facilitate discussions, and manage escalations effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to adopt emerging trends and concepts in program and product delivery.
  • Possess a solid understanding of technical architecture to foresee impacts on dependencies and delivery timelines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of system, software, and data engineering best practices to navigate delivery challenges.
  • Quickly grasp new technology concepts and understand their implications for delivery.
  • Effectively manage major incidents, ensuring stakeholders receive timely and relevant information for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define annual budgetary needs.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and external stakeholders to deliver software or professional services.
  • Coach peers and other roles on methodologies and program management tools, providing mentorship on leadership.
  • Play a key role in the recruitment process and make final hiring decisions.
  • Lead other project managers in the team, integrating their plans into a comprehensive program plan.
  • Actively participate in the project management community, influencing capability and capacity planning.
  • Utilize documentation and presentations to align technology and finance stakeholders.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies with a proven record of driving positive change within teams.
  • A history of successfully delivering complex technology projects across multiple teams while influencing product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and contributing to all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to conceptualize ideas across various platforms.
  • Proficient in articulating complex concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Experience in building credible relationships and influencing senior management and leadership teams.
