Early Years Group Leader Job Description

Barracudas Activity Day Camps is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Group Leader to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being and safety of our young campers, while also delivering engaging and educational activities that promote their development and growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement the Early Years Foundation Stages to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for our campers.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining a safe and inviting base room area, ensuring all equipment is secure and accessible.
  • Follow established policies and procedures to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for all campers.
  • Deliver a variety of activity sessions, working collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a seamless and engaging experience.
  • Act as a Key Worker, maintaining open communication with parents and caregivers regarding their child's experiences and progress.
  • Provide active supervision and attention to campers at all times, including during breaks and meal times.
  • Plan and deliver activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our campers, ensuring maximum participation and engagement.
  • Encourage children to take part in new activities, promoting a growth mindset and a love for learning.
  • Report any concerns regarding child protection to senior staff or designated personnel.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate campers with additional needs or medical conditions.
Requirements:
  • Working towards or holding a relevant childcare qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience within the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Aged 18 or over by the start date of the contract.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Provide satisfactory professional/academic references.
  • Enthusiastic, caring, and organized, with excellent communication skills and the ability to use initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable challenges within a childcare setting.
  • Enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Attend a Virtual Assessment Event (if new to Barracudas) and complete Online Training annually.
  • Assist with pack up at the end of camp.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the company fulfills all Health and Safety obligations by following instructions and demonstrating a proactive approach to safety issues.
  • Deliver activities that are appropriate for campers in your care, within the scope of your qualifications, skills, and knowledge.
  • Encourage campers to participate in new activities, ensuring the activity program is as directed on the timetable.
  • Ensure campers under your supervision behave in a safe manner, always knowing their whereabouts and respecting their individuality.
  • Carefully follow all camp systems, including registration and collection procedures, Health and Safety systems, and guidelines on good practice in child welfare.
  • Be a positive role model, promoting a healthy lifestyle, good hygiene practices, and considering the welfare of campers at all times.
  • Report any concerns regarding child protection to senior staff or designated personnel.
  • Pending staff availability, you may be required to deliver Skills Builder sessions.
  • All staff may be required to support a swimming session, bringing swimwear and a spare t-shirt will be available at camp.
