Position Overview

Are you seeking a role that allows you to leverage your organizational abilities while accommodating your personal schedule? The Educational Governance Support Officer position may be the perfect opportunity for you.

The Governance Support Team consists of a dedicated group of professionals responsible for collaborating with Headteachers and Chairs of Governors to arrange meetings throughout the academic calendar, providing procedural and legal advice as necessary. Daily responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating three meetings per school each academic year (approximately 24 meetings per term for full-time equivalents).
  • Drafting agendas for governing board meetings.
  • Recording minutes for meetings, whether conducted virtually or on-site.
  • Maintaining an organized database for school governing boards.
  • Advising and supporting school governors in fulfilling their statutory duties and ensuring the effective operation of the governing board.

No prior experience with governance is required, as we provide comprehensive training. This role is ideal for individuals who:

  • Desire a flexible work schedule that may include evenings to suit their lifestyle.
  • Prefer a term-time only position, allowing for work aligned with the academic year.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and listening abilities.

In addition to serving 112 maintained schools in the East Riding, we also collaborate with various other educational institutions, including academy schools and trusts. This diversity enables us to offer stable contracted hours. To uphold our high standards of service, we invest in our team by providing development opportunities such as the Clerks Development Programme, Governance in Academies training, and NGA Learning, along with a range of additional benefits.

The standard working hours are 18.5 hours per week, from Tuesday to Thursday, with occasional attendance at governing board meetings on Monday evenings, depending on school allocations. This may involve 1 to 3 evening meetings weekly, scheduled to accommodate your lifestyle. Most meetings take place at schools across the East Riding of Yorkshire in the evenings, with some conducted virtually. Therefore, flexibility is essential, and while the role is based at County Hall Beverley (currently home-based), the ability to travel extensively across the East Riding is required.
