Position Overview:

The Senior Financial Manager will be instrumental in directing and supervising the financial functions of Polar Insight. This role demands a strategic mindset coupled with robust analytical capabilities, as well as a proactive approach to manage daily financial operations and uphold the fiscal integrity of the organization. As a remote, part-time position, the ideal candidate will be self-driven, well-organized, and adept at working autonomously.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Generate and deliver precise and timely financial reports, encompassing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure adherence to UK accounting standards and regulations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Formulate, manage, and supervise the organization’s budget.
  • Offer financial forecasts and projections to inform strategic planning and decision-making.

Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Establish and uphold accounting policies and procedures.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Track cash flow to guarantee the organization can fulfill its financial commitments.
  • Manage banking relationships and optimize the utilization of available cash.

Financial Analysis:

  • Examine financial data to pinpoint trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue growth.
  • Provide insights and recommendations derived from financial analysis to support business decisions.

Internal Controls:

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Tax Compliance:

  • Guarantee timely and accurate submission of all tax returns and compliance with UK tax regulations.
  • Manage interactions with external tax advisors and auditors.

Financial Strategy:

  • Assist in the formulation and execution of the company’s financial strategy.
  • Provide financial insights and guidance to the management team.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and ensure the company’s practices are compliant.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and other regulatory assessments.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting personnel, if applicable.
  • Encourage a collaborative and efficient work environment within the finance team.

Systems and Processes:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software, particularly Xero and ideally Zoho One.
  • Continuously enhance financial processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management.
  • Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial management.
  • Proficiency in Xero; experience with Zoho One is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Knowledge of UK tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Strong internet connection and ability to work remotely.
