Job Title: Senior Engineer - Metrology (Electrical Calibration)

Salary: £40,000+ depending on skills and experience

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer - Metrology (Electrical Calibration) to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for performing high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of electrical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on TMDE equipment
  2. Deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to team members and apprentices/graduates
  3. Deputise for the ICS Electrical team leader, including people/resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff
  4. Write and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
  5. Participate in quality audits, achieving UKAS signatory status
  6. Communicate with technical stakeholders on instrumentation/calibration topics

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a precision Electrical Calibration/metrology laboratory environment
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001)
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Electrical Calibration
  • Experience in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level
  • Experience in use of automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview)
  • Experience in Mechanical, Dimensional, Temperature, and other engineering calibrations

About the Team:

The Calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Electrical focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making AC/DC voltage, current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, and time/frequency measurements. ICS Electrical consists of around 8+ team members, and we offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
