Position Overview

We are excited to present a rewarding opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to become a vital member of our Immunology division.

The ideal candidate will possess routine Immunology experience and a strong commitment to excellence. You must hold a valid HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and have at least 12 months of laboratory experience within the UK, which may include training roles. Applications from candidates lacking this experience will not be considered.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting a range of technical assays to ensure timely and accurate results for patient care. We seek an individual who is an effective communicator, well-organized, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and capable of thriving in a collaborative environment.

Our Immunology department offers a unique chance to engage with a comprehensive array of Immunology assays, utilizing advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment. This includes instruments such as Navios and Aquios flow cytometers, DS2 ELISA processors, Bioflash chemiluminescent instruments, Unicap 250s, Quantalyser 3000 IIF processor, and Euroblotone blot processor.

The department is accredited by UKAS (ISO15189:22) for a wide range of Immunology tests, and we actively support Continuous Professional Development (CPD). There is also an opportunity to pursue the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Immunology, as our department is recognized for specialist training.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our team, you will contribute to delivering a quality-driven, cost-effective, and patient-centered service aligned with the objectives of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Performing laboratory analyses related to the role, including reporting results and maintaining accurate records.
  2. Participating in departmental rosters as needed.
  3. Conducting quality control procedures and addressing any identified performance issues.
  4. Assisting in the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  5. Managing personal work activities to optimize time and ensure an adequate supply of laboratory consumables.
  6. Utilizing computerized data management systems competently and efficiently.
  7. Supporting the training and development of staff as part of the departmental training plan.
  8. Maintaining a Professional Portfolio and updating your Professional Development Plan to meet HPC CPD requirements.
  9. Contributing to the development of new methods and the implementation of innovative technologies.
  10. Ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and procedures to meet National External Quality Assurance and Accreditation standards.
  11. Assisting in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  12. Adhering to safe working practices in accordance with departmental safety policies.
  13. Complying with Trust policies, including those related to discipline, grievance, and health and safety.
  14. Ensuring adherence to statutory and legislative requirements, including patient confidentiality and data protection.
  15. Participating in your Personal Development Review and undertaking additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • A minimum of 12 months of laboratory experience in the UK.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • State registration with HCPC.

Desirable

  • Experience with Immunology laboratory techniques.
