Job Summary

The Medical Research Council is seeking a highly skilled Science Communications Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Communications and Engagement Team, you will be responsible for championing our research to internal stakeholders and playing a key role in scientific writing, content creation, and engagement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver thought-provoking news articles and press releases about MRC research and internal activities.
  • Promote events and campaigns, develop and maintain effective internal communication, and coordinate with our grass-roots committees.
  • Support the management of social media, oversee the MRC intranet and website, and help develop and implement strategy for our digital screens.
  • Provide creative input for public engagement and educational community outreach projects.
  • Assist in creating content and copy for science communications, including public engagement, both online and live.

Requirements

  • Education to a BSc degree level (or equivalent experience) in a science-related subject.
  • Experience in website and social media management, delivering tasks to a high standard within timelines and budget.
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of effective internal and external events, including science outreach activities.
  • Good written communication skills in English.

Working Relationships

The Science Communications Officer will report to the Communications, Events and Engagement Manager and will be in close liaison with academics, researchers, post-docs, and PhD students.
