The Role
The Critical Facilities Technician is responsible for providing technical and facility support within a 24/7 data center setting, which includes the maintenance and management of electrical, HVAC, civil, and building management systems. We are seeking self-driven team members who possess a strong sense of urgency and commitment to their team, our clients, and Iron Mountain's vision. This position requires full-time shift work, which may include 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts.
While experience in a data center is beneficial, we also welcome candidates with critical facilities experience from other industries such as healthcare, warehousing, aviation, and telecommunications.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of critical power, cooling, environmental, security, and support systems to achieve or surpass uptime service levels.
- Proactively ensure the safety of the environment and occupants, adhering to all safety protocols during work.
- Conduct limited maintenance tasks to guarantee the smooth operation of data center heating and cooling systems and overall facility.
- Oversee and monitor contract vendors.
- Track, resolve, and update all assigned service tickets using the ticketing system, including troubleshooting and customer installations of electrical and physical equipment.
- Perform daily operational checks of all mechanical and electrical equipment, inspecting buildings and grounds for unsafe or malfunctioning operations.
- Supervise and periodically check vendors during maintenance to ensure compliance with rules and operating procedures.
- Assist in arranging access and creating work authorizations for internal projects or vendor work.
- Identify issues proactively and take necessary steps to resolve them. Assist with service delivery tasks as needed.
Key Skills, Requirements, and Competencies:
- Experience in a critical operations environment and/or data center experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- A background in electrical, electrical installation, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is required.
- Ability to multitask, as we utilize various systems to manage ticket queues and work tasks may vary throughout the day.
- Attention to detail is crucial, with the ability to understand and follow documented processes and safety codes.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills to manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
- A commitment to learning and growing within Iron Mountain is encouraged.
- A customer service-oriented mindset is essential.
