About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Developer to join our Transformation and Technology directorate at HMLR. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the development of integrations between our corporate services and systems.

The successful candidate will have expertise in object-oriented languages such as Java and Python, as well as strong knowledge of functional and behavioural automated testing techniques. You will be able to design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity, and have experience of defining integrations between systems and coordinating the associated build and test activities.

You will work closely with our 100+ strong community of software developers to develop and maintain the integrations between our various corporate services and systems. You will be responsible for guiding the ways in which the team works, being proficient in a wide range of technical systems, and contributing to the developer community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead development on one or a small number of related project teams
  • Guide the ways in which the team works
  • Be proficient in a wide range of technical systems
  • Be involved in identifying appropriate technology and approaches, deciding when software should be written
  • Contribute to the developer community
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring your team
  • Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of good practice
Requirements
  • Expert programmer using object-oriented languages (e.g. Java, Python)
  • Strong knowledge of functional and behavioural automated testing techniques (e.g. TDD, BDD)
  • Experience of leading in the application of appropriate modern standards and practices
  • Experience of working as a senior developer on agile software development projects
  • Experience of developing proof of concept prototypes (e.g. to inform service design)
  • Ability to design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity
  • Experience of defining integrations between systems and coordinating the associated build and test activities
