Position Overview

Our Restructuring Services Tax team is dedicated to delivering expert tax guidance on the reorganization of financially challenged enterprises.

With an impressive history of success, our team has spearheaded some of the most intricate and substantial restructuring initiatives in the UK. This includes high-profile insolvency roles such as company administrations, liquidations, and receiverships, alongside debt-for-equity exchanges, schemes of arrangement, and mergers and acquisitions.

The diversity of projects is remarkable, complemented by a welcoming and collaborative team environment. We are seeking a VAT expert at the assistant manager or manager level to enhance our existing capabilities and pursue exciting opportunities in the restructuring sector. This position encompasses both advisory and compliance responsibilities across a wide array of business industries.

Primary Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Providing VAT advice to insolvency professionals (administrators/liquidators) regarding the tax implications of their planned actions during insolvency proceedings;
  • Offering guidance to corporations, lenders, and other stakeholders on the VAT ramifications of complex restructuring activities, including expedited share, property, and business sales;
  • Engaging with tax authorities on a variety of technical and compliance inquiries related to insolvency cases;
  • Addressing daily VAT inquiries from internal restructuring units;
  • Drafting VAT reports and other deliverables while advising on the submission of necessary returns or documentation to tax authorities;
  • Supporting the team’s business development efforts (you will have ample opportunity to cultivate relationships both internally and externally);
  • Contributing to the technical advancement of the broader restructuring practice through the design and delivery of training sessions;
  • Collaborating with the wider restructuring and tax teams to improve processes, controls, and efficiencies;
  • Preparing indirect tax thought leadership pieces with assistance from the broader tax team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
  • A CTA or equivalent qualification is preferred;
  • Strong technical expertise in UK VAT;
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management abilities;
  • The capacity to perform effectively under pressure.
Previous experience in transactions or insolvency processes is advantageous but not mandatory.
