The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly organized and administratively efficient individual to join our Student and Academic Support Service (SASS) as a Student Adviser. As a Student Adviser, you will provide a first contact point for students, offering guidance and academic-related support through sign-posting to those navigating our University support systems.

Key responsibilities include reviewing attendance reports, checking and collating programme handbooks, sending cohort mailings, and reviewing exam board reports to check on the progress of the students you are named adviser for. You will also record interactions, decisions, and actions, as appropriate, and lead on administrative processes in relation to the student journey such as exceptional circumstances, degree transfers, interruption of studies, course enrolments, and progression outcomes.

Your Skills and Attributes
  • HNC/HND or equivalent; relevant work experience; or broad experience acquired through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.
  • Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office) with the ability to use student record systems and perform basic data analysis tasks.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of working independently with the ability to prioritize workloads in the face of conflicting demands.
  • Constructive team player, demonstrating ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to understand the need for boundary-setting when working with students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student wellbeing and support.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - remaining calm under pressure, being able to provide a safe and welcoming space for students in distress.
