Satellite Systems Integration Engineer

Position Summary
The role involves providing Mechanical Engineering expertise focused on developing processes, plans, and procedures within 3D Experience for the fabrication of Satellites and their payloads. The position includes assisting in the assembly of critical hardware components on the Satellite, such as electronic units, solar arrays, and structural panels, as well as supporting environmental testing at designated facilities.
*Candidates with prior experience in Assembly Integration & Testing will be highly regarded.*
Key Responsibilities
Project Preparation Phase
- Assist in the customization phase commencing at project initiation.
- Participate in project DMU (Digital Mock-Up/Design for Manufacture) sessions to ensure manufacturability.
- Contribute to the development of necessary documentation for production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedures.
- Lead the installation of Satellite appendages and manage integration workflows.
- Assist in defining MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment) for Satellite use and support procurement efforts.
- Collaborate with the Process Owner team in all relevant aspects of their responsibilities.
Project Operational Phase
- Provide support to the Assembly Integration & Test (AIT) Lead Engineering team during peak workload periods.
- Manage the handling and installation of thermal hardware components (heaters, thermistors).
- Oversee the mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems, instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, and payloads, ensuring proper documentation and processes are followed.
- Prepare and execute environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass Properties, Thermal) at the unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft levels.
- Assist process owners with observation resolution and operational tasks.
- Supervise unit installation activities on the Satellite.
- Support quality reviews, conduct PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and Root Cause Analysis.
- Help create re-work instructions based on project needs and identify necessary parts and tools for execution.
Non-Project Responsibilities
- Design tooling/build aids to facilitate assembly execution.
- Provide support to Research & Development efforts.
- Create and maintain training modules.
- Ensure that working methods and processes are standardized, optimized, and up-to-date.
- Develop new processes, engage in process improvement initiatives, and monitor implementation in operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum HNC level qualification in a Mechanical discipline (a lower qualification may be acceptable with substantial relevant industry experience).
- Previous AIT experience is highly advantageous.
- Mechanical experience in spacecraft or aircraft environments is preferred.
- Experience in integrating avionics on spacecraft is desirable.
- Familiarity with handling and lifting large spacecraft is essential.
- System Test experience is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience at the system level is required.
