Role Overview
The Wastekit Service Engineer plays a crucial role in the upkeep and servicing of recycling machinery, addressing both immediate and scheduled maintenance needs. This position focuses on meeting personal performance goals while ensuring compliance with customer service level agreements (SLAs). Collaboration with the Service Planning Supervisor, Technical Manager, and Operations Director is essential for delivering effective and safe service.
Customer Engagement Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with call controllers and Field Service Supervisors to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Strategically plan daily tasks to optimize service delivery, maintaining high standards of productivity through both electronic and verbal communication.
- Take ownership of technical issues to ensure quality service for customers.
- Strive to meet targets established by the Field Service Supervisor while adhering to all customer SLAs.
- Uphold confidentiality and discretion in all interactions.
- Be prepared to undertake any reasonable tasks as required.
- Flexibility to work outside the usual area during peak workloads, which may involve overnight stays.
- Always carry identification and relevant Health and Safety accreditation while on duty.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete all required paperwork and electronic records accurately and in accordance with company protocols.
- Record time, parts utilized, and other relevant details meticulously, whether electronically or manually.
- Ensure timely acquisition of replacement parts to maintain van stock and address breakdowns, keeping customer SLAs in mind.
- Report any potential business leads to the sales department.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
- Proficient in interpreting hydraulic and electrical circuit diagrams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles.
- Competent in using various electrical and hydraulic testing equipment.
- Familiarity with company procedures and commitment to compliance.
- Willingness to share technical knowledge with peers.
- Adhere to best engineering practices and standards consistently.
- Update technical knowledge as opportunities arise.
- Employ cost-effective and safe methods in all tasks.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as directed by the Field Service Supervisor.
Compliance and Standards
- Follow all guidelines outlined in the Work Instruction for Engineer Responsibilities.
- Adhere to directives from Field Service Supervisors, Managers, and Directors.
- Maintain and utilize company-issued equipment and vehicles safely and in line with company policies.
- Take responsibility for the secure management of stock and ensure accurate stock balances.
- Keep precise records of stock usage, whether through usage sheets or electronic methods.
- Ensure proper uniform is worn and maintained in a clean condition, utilizing PPE as required.
- Return any necessary documentation to the office promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicles in accordance with company policies.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
- Background in service engineering, electrical, or hydraulic fields with proven fault-finding and repair skills.
- City & Guilds qualifications in electrical and mechanical engineering.
- Proficient in using electrical and hydraulic testing equipment.
- Solid understanding of single and three-phase electrical systems and hydraulic circuits.
- A disciplined approach with strong personal administrative and customer service skills.
- Familiarity with 17th edition electrical regulations or equivalent qualifications.
