Job Description:

The Nuclear Safety Case Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining nuclear safety cases to support build and commissioning activities for the Astute- and Dreadnought-class submarines, and to enable ongoing Site Redevelopment Project works where they interface with the submarine build programmes.

The successful candidate will provide authoritative guidance on the development of an appropriate safety case structure, development processes, and associated analytical methods. Additionally, they will be responsible for the development of training packages focused on nuclear safety methodologies and delivering these as required to ensure the Site Safety Case team staff are appropriately trained.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain nuclear safety cases to support build and commissioning activities for the Astute- and Dreadnought-class submarines.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on the development of an appropriate safety case structure, development processes, and associated analytical methods.
  • Develop training packages focused on nuclear safety methodologies and deliver these as required to ensure the Site Safety Case team staff are appropriately trained.
  • Collaborate with the Site Safety Case team to ensure that all activities are undertaken in a manner consistent with Company Policy, Business Processes, and the Quality Assurance programme.
  • Act as a point of contact with internal and external safety and regulatory authorities.

Requirements:

  • Degree in a STEM subject (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive knowledge of the techniques and methodology used in the development of safety cases that meet relevant good practice.
  • UK nuclear legislation, nuclear industry, site licensing, authorisation, and environmental permitting, and associated industry guidance.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the UK nuclear regulatory landscape and permissioning requirements.
  • Experience within the UK submarine build programme.
  • Attained, or working towards, Membership of a relevant professional institute.
