A significant aspect of this role involves identifying funding opportunities and crafting compelling business cases to secure resources that will drive economic revitalization and sustainable practices. The team has successfully attracted substantial funding to support various projects aimed at fostering business growth and community development, with a particular emphasis on assisting local enterprises in their decarbonization efforts.

The Council has also been proactive in establishing partnerships with private and academic sectors to advance sustainability initiatives, such as the DECODE Corby project, which aims to support local manufacturing businesses in reducing their carbon footprints.

The team is actively involved in business support activities, including organizing job fairs and collaborating with local organizations to enhance employment opportunities and skills development within the community. These efforts are crucial in attracting new businesses to the area, thereby supporting the growing population and reducing reliance on out-commuting.

The Council's strategic approach to climate change is a central focus of this role, which includes the development of a comprehensive Climate Change Strategy and Carbon Management Plan. The Council has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, and this position plays a vital role in leading initiatives that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Project Officer, your primary duties will include:

1. Leading the development and implementation of sustainability strategies and initiatives across the organization.
2. Collaborating with various departments to identify and execute innovative projects aimed at reducing the Council's environmental impact.
3. Monitoring progress and reporting on the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and the Carbon Management Plan.
4. Developing and managing projects that contribute to carbon reduction goals.
5. Evaluating funding applications and advising on the Climate Change Investment Fund.
6. Engaging with stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for sustainability objectives.
7. Seeking external funding opportunities to advance climate-related projects.
8. Analyzing new legislation and policies to inform the Council's sustainability approach.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess a Level 4 qualification (Degree or equivalent) in sustainability, environmental management, or a related field, along with substantial experience in sustainability roles. You should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully working with diverse stakeholders to achieve sustainability goals.
