Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists to join the Obstetric Bleeding Study UK (OBS UK) research and enhancement team. This role is integral to the ongoing investigation into Post-Partum Haemorrhage (PPH) and will involve collaboration with various maternity units across the UK.

The OBS UK study is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded initiative aimed at implementing a PPH care bundle as part of a quality improvement strategy in multiple maternity facilities. The project is sponsored by a prominent university and supported by a dedicated trials unit.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating the obstetric implementation of the project, working closely with maternity units to promote and sustain improvements in PPH care. This position will require travel across numerous hospital sites.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Participating in the on-call rota.
  • Engaging in antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics, as well as theatre activities as determined by departmental needs.
  • Providing mentorship to junior trainees and medical students, contributing to their training and the continuity of service.
  • Exhibiting strong teamwork capabilities and a professional demeanor to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Achieving clinical and quality objectives established both nationally and locally in conjunction with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • Monitoring patients throughout their clinical journeys.
  • Contributing to designated research projects within the department and meeting established academic goals.
  • Collaborating with academic partners to prepare and submit research grant proposals.
  • Disseminating research outcomes through presentations at various conferences.
  • Documenting research findings for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • If pursuing an MD, fulfilling the academic requirements set by academic supervisors.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCOG part 1.

Desirable:

  • MRCOG part 2.
  • MRCOG part 3.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification.

Entry Criteria

Essential:

  • Full registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Completion of at least three years of full-time postgraduate training in a relevant specialty.
  • A minimum of 12 months of experience at Tier 2 (ST3+) level.
  • Development of training competencies towards independent practice in all core training modules.
  • Appropriate knowledge of Obstetrics & Gynaecology with evidence of ongoing medical education.
  • Previous research experience.
