Role Summary

About the Team

RPC's Professional & Financial Risks (PFR) division is on the lookout for a Senior Associate to enhance our team in Bristol. The PFR division operates within our esteemed insurance sector, representing a broad spectrum of Professional Indemnity Insurers and their clients.

Our team adeptly manages a diverse array of claims involving professionals such as solicitors, insurance brokers, accountants, and financial consultants. The role primarily focuses on defending liability claims throughout various stages, while also offering counsel on related matters including regulatory challenges, risk management strategies, and Ombudsman inquiries. Additionally, we frequently provide guidance to insurers regarding policy coverage aspects of claims. Our clientele includes not only major Professional Indemnity Insurers but also several prominent professional service firms.

Currently, our PFR team comprises 7 partners and approximately 35 associates based in Bristol, with additional representation in London.

Responsibilities of the Role

The ideal candidate will collaborate with multiple partners and legal professionals within a dynamic and expanding team. The work will be diverse, engaging, and demanding, offering autonomy in handling matters across various professions with claim values ranging from tens of thousands to several million pounds. There will also be opportunities to engage in business development and client-focused initiatives.

Our team is highly regarded for Professional Negligence in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

Key Duties

  • Overseeing a portfolio of Professional Indemnity claims, including coverage-related issues.
  • Providing timely and high-quality outputs to clients, ensuring exceptional service and adherence to established working practices and service level agreements.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of the team's services, support mechanisms, processes, and procedures.
  • Upholding the values and behaviors that define our client-focused approach.
  • Fostering an environment of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and assisting others, while taking ownership of team development initiatives such as training and process enhancements.
  • Collecting and organizing necessary Management Information in line with client agreements.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Approximately 5+ years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) or equivalent relevant expertise.
  • Proficiency in professional indemnity litigation; experience in insurance is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to deliver legal and commercial solutions, collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues to ensure an outstanding client experience.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with a focus on understanding clients' business objectives.
  • Commitment to business development to expand the practice, identifying and nurturing commercial opportunities.
  • Efficient and commercially minded, with an understanding of financial management principles.
  • A collaborative leader who mentors and develops junior team members to reach their full potential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
