Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Physician Associate to become a vital member of our Care of the Elderly team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). This role involves rotating between our Older People's Assessment Unit and various Care of the Elderly wards, ensuring comprehensive support and care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will operate under the guidance of a Care of the Elderly Consultant, delivering holistic and patient-centered care. The role requires a strong commitment to working with older adults and their families, alongside proficiency in advanced communication and complex clinical decision-making. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough clinical assessments and examinations of a diverse patient population, demonstrating high levels of clinical expertise.
  • Formulating differential diagnoses based on comprehensive patient histories and physical evaluations, while proposing and initiating suitable treatment plans.
  • Interpreting diagnostic tests and imaging results competently, ensuring timely escalation to senior clinicians when necessary.
  • Participating in daily ward rounds with the Care of the Elderly team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Developing specialized knowledge and experience in geriatric care.
  • Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under appropriate supervision.
  • Collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring clear communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Making complex referrals to specialists and implementing their recommendations promptly.
  • Providing health and wellness counseling to patients and their families.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of efficient care pathways in line with best practices and national guidelines.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of all patient care activities.

Work Hours

This is a full-time position, with total hours to be agreed upon with the department.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A minimum of a BSc/BA degree prior to undertaking PA training.
  • An MSc/PgDip in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current certification or re-certification by the Physician Associate National Exam.
  • Registration with the UK Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR).
  • Membership in the Faculty of Physician Associates.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development post-qualification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Desirable qualifications include Immediate Life Support and Advanced Life Support certifications.
