About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Connections team at ENWL. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing designs, quotations, and serving our customers with electricity connections to our distribution network up to and including 6.6kV / 11kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality design and quotations for new and modified connections while providing excellent customer service.
  • Manage workloads to meet regulatory standards and customer expectations, adapt to business changes, and identify training needs of less experienced colleagues.
  • Ensure designs are safe and minimum cost solutions in accordance with ENWL Licence Conditions, Common Connections Charging Methodology, and ENWL Policy and Standards of compliance.
  • Work with the team to design new and modified connections for demand and distributed generation, requests to connect from third-party connectors, and diversions associated with a new connection.
  • Familiarize yourself with new Low Carbon technologies connecting to the Distribution Network, such as Electric Vehicle chargers, heat pumps, battery technology, etc.
  • Have a good working knowledge of ENA ER G5, G98, and G99 and experience designing generation systems.
  • Adhere to Ofgem's standards, data integrity, and provide accurate forecasts of information for the range of projects under your control.
  • Results-focused to ensure exceptional customer service is converted into accepted quotations to sustain a healthy order book and achieve acceptance targets.

Requirements

  • Hold a minimum of an HNC level qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (essential).
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of 6.6kV / 11kV systems and substations, including switchgear, transformers, overhead, underground circuits, and protection.
  • Have experience with electrical engineering design and practices and an in-depth knowledge of the electricity distribution business, including an understanding of regulatory and industry standards within electricity distribution.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Construction Design Management regulations relating to utility projects.
  • Demonstrate sound leadership and motivational skills with the ability to work in a team and help others in your team to improve.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge/understanding of the competition in the connections market.
  • Have a broad understanding of the construction industry and the particular role ENWL undertakes.
  • Have an optimistic approach to problem-solving.
  • Tenaciously deal with and overcome objections.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own personal service and getting things done.
  • Demonstrate strong empathy with clients and their buying journey.
