1st Step Solutions is collaborating with a prominent National Mechanical & Electrical Contractor, presenting an opportunity for a Mechanical Project Leader to engage in a significant Life Sciences initiative.

Role Overview:
The successful candidate will possess a solid history in project leadership, particularly within the commercial domain or analogous projects valued between £5-£10 million. Experience in comprehensive Contract Management at this level is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise both site installation teams and management personnel.
- Maintain effective communication with internal design and commercial teams.
- Oversee procurement of materials and manage daily client interactions.
- Ensure proficient management of projects, including subcontract packages, to achieve profitability while adhering to budget and timelines, thereby exceeding client and stakeholder expectations.

Specific Duties:
  • Manage the overall mechanical design of the system, collaborating closely with consultants to ensure a feasible and cost-effective design.
  • Lead and document technical and progress meetings.
  • Produce necessary design and working drawings to facilitate project delivery, capturing any additional costs and delays due to external factors.
  • Develop a commissioning strategy for installations.
  • Operate with a degree of autonomy from the Project Manager.
  • Support the Project Manager in their responsibilities and act as a deputy on the project.
  • Schedule the works and subcontract packages.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning activities for assigned packages.
  • Manage handover documentation, including record drawings and testing results.
  • Implement risk control measures related to program and commercial aspects.

Qualifications:
- HNC/HND in Building Services or higher is preferred.

Essential Skills:
  • CSCS/SMSTS certification.
  • Mechanical qualification.
  • Experience in senior roles on M&E projects, with a focus on full contract management.
  • Familiarity with current construction practices and site safety protocols.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles.
