About the Role

Cranfield University is actively engaged in groundbreaking research projects funded by prestigious industrial and research agencies, focusing on AI-Based Design and Optimization of Aerospace Subsystems. A key area of focus is the development of innovative fuel gauging systems, encompassing the optimization of aircraft fuel tank geometries and sensor placement.

As a Research Assistant, you will contribute to this cutting-edge work within the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-physical Systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with researchers on projects related to AI-driven design and optimization of aerospace systems.
  • Developing mathematical models and geometric optimization algorithms leveraging AI and genetic algorithms.
  • Validating these models and algorithms against various operational conditions.
  • Contributing to the development of an AI-driven 'Gauge Solver' tool for broader subsystem integration and optimization.
  • Engaging in communication and collaboration with Airbus experts to gather insights on operational parameters.

About You

You possess a Master's degree and have proven expertise in AI implementations for aerospace system design and optimization. Your qualifications include:

  • A strong publication record demonstrating your contributions to the design, development, and coding of AI-based software for aerospace systems.
  • Practical experience in aerospace systems modeling.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and techniques.

Furthermore, you excel in communication and possess exceptional presentation skills, enabling you to effectively interact with diverse audiences, including students, industrial stakeholders, and research collaborators. You are adept at collaborating within an academic research environment and engaging with senior technical staff.
