Fleet Engineering Supervisor

We are seeking a skilled and driven Engineering Manager to join our team at Arriva UK Bus.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and presentation of our fleet, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, established policies, maintenance protocols, and safety standards as directed by senior management. Your efforts will be crucial in achieving fleet and workshop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to deliver transport services efficiently and reliably.
Key Responsibilities:
- Possess or be working towards a Transport Manager (Management CPC Holder) qualification.
- Drive engineering performance and service excellence.
- Accountable for core engineering KPIs at the site.
- Manage inventory and KPI responsibilities including Supply Chain, Stock levels, and Warranties.
- Ensure bus cleanliness and presentation standards are met.
- Oversee fleet maintenance, repairs, and quality assurance checks.
- Manage Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs) where applicable.
- Develop fleet reliability and improvement strategies.
- Implement compliance campaigns and fleet initiatives.
- Generate Daily, Weekly, and Period-End reports as necessary.
- Undertake additional reasonable duties as required.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Ensure that maintenance and environmental standards at company facilities meet or exceed required benchmarks.
- Provide leadership and a duty of care for onsite engineers and external contractors.
- Act as the site responsible person for Health & Safety compliance.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits.
- Support resource planning for team leaders regarding leave and training.
- Maintain compliance with O-Licence regulations related to engineering matters.
- Manage contractors with respect to Health & Safety and property matters.
Customer Focus:
Ensure that the depot meets peak vehicle requirements daily and that all vehicles are maintained and cleaned to a high standard, surpassing statutory requirements.
Quality Assurance:
- Analyze breakdown and defect trends to develop improvement plans.
- Deliver core engineering KPIs to established standards.
- Implement a technical training strategy across the organization.
- Conduct engineering standards audits and maintain legal compliance records.
- Prepare technical reports as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
- Implement lean strategies and practices to reduce waste and enhance efficiency.

People Management:
- Oversee all aspects of staff management including recruitment, performance reviews, and training.
- Ensure holiday schedules meet operational needs.
- Guide and mentor engineers and apprentices.
- Ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
Financial Oversight:
- Monitor engineering lost mileage and overall garage performance.
- Implement business-critical projects effectively.
- Develop garage budgets and assess financial performance against targets.
- Participate in project management initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:
- A robust engineering background with experience in maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles, ideally within the Bus/HGV sector.
- Candidates should possess a recognized apprenticeship or vocational qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and a commitment to adherence.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team to maintain a safe working environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience collaborating with Trade Union representatives.
