Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Support Officer to join our Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse team. As a key member of our team, you will provide vital support to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the criminal and misconduct investigation process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to victims, completing risk assessments and formulating a victim strategy as needed.
  • Ensure Victim Contracts and detailed Operational Evaluation Logs (OELs) are completed in a timely manner, and relevant court paperwork is produced accordingly.
  • Inform and guide discussions with victims regarding bail conditions, Victim Personal Statements (VPS), Special Measures, and Restraining Orders, completing relevant documentation and sharing with other agencies as necessary.
  • Understand the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme process and regularly review investigations to identify opportunities for relevant paperwork completion.
  • Liaise with the Witness Care Unit and PSD Briefing and Strategy Meetings (BST) Coordinator regarding victims attending court and hearings who require additional practical support.
  • Attend Domestic Violence Court to provide a response to issues raised by the Crown Prosecution Service and facilitate the victim's testimony.
  • In cases of high-risk victims, arrange for retraction statements to be taken and deploy an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to support and encourage the victim to engage in the criminal justice process and internal police disciplinary procedures.
Requirements
  • PIP1 qualified or other relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrate recent experience in managing and supporting victims of domestic abuse.
  • A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, empathize, and adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different individuals and audiences.
  • Able to produce clear and concise reports and other documents within best practice procedures.
