Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Support Officer to join our Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse team. As a key member of our team, you will provide vital support to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the investigation and disciplinary processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide emotional support and guidance to victims, completing risk assessments and formulating victim strategies as needed.
  2. Ensure Victim Contracts and detailed Operational Enforcement Letters are completed promptly, and relevant court paperwork is produced in a timely manner.
  3. Inform and guide discussions with victims regarding bail conditions, Victim Personal Statements, Special Measures, and Restraining Orders, completing relevant documentation and sharing with other agencies as necessary.
  4. Understand the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme process and regularly review investigations to identify opportunities and complete relevant paperwork when necessary.
  5. Liaise with the Witness Care Unit and PSD BST Meetings and Hearings Coordinator to arrange support for victims attending court and hearings.
  6. Attend Domestic Violence Court to provide a response to issues raised by the Crown Prosecution Service and facilitate the victim giving evidence.
  7. In cases of high-risk victims, arrange for retraction statements to be taken and deploy an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to support and encourage the victim to engage in criminal justice and internal police disciplinary processes.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on victims. You will also require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with victims, colleagues, and other agencies.
