Position Overview

This position includes an incentive bonus of £3,500* distributed over an 18-month timeframe*.

As a Senior Social Care Practitioner, you will take the lead on intricate cases and provide guidance to colleagues in their early career stages.

The collaboration between Buckinghamshire Council and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust emphasizes a joint effort to provide essential mental health services within the region.

You will collaborate closely with secondary health professionals while holding specific accountability for social care responsibilities, managing a complex and varied case portfolio within the team.

Key Responsibilities

In your role as a Senior Social Care Practitioner, you will report directly to the Social Work Team Manager and work in conjunction with the Social Care Assistant Team Manager. You will also partner with CMHT colleagues to advocate for a social care perspective and foster a comprehensive approach to care and support delivery. A solid understanding of the relevant legal frameworks governing our responsibilities is essential, along with the ability to convey these legal obligations to health colleagues. You will cultivate strong working relationships with key partner organizations within the Council and third-party providers while managing a complex and diverse case portfolio.

The Senior Practitioner will oversee up to two Social Workers in their early career stages, aiding their professional development as they integrate their training into practice. You will bring extensive knowledge of practice and legislation, supporting the growth of skills and knowledge within the social care team.

Job Duties

  • Manage a complex case portfolio, including Court of Protection responsibilities, collaborating with Social Work colleagues in a multi-agency context to support our service users.
  • Work alongside health professionals to ensure the provision of safe and effective care.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of relevant legislation that informs practice and addresses the needs of service users, their caregivers, and families.
  • Serve as an exemplary role model and supportive colleague within the Social Work team.
  • Facilitate training and guidance for the Social Work team across the region.
  • Supervise an early career Social Worker when in position.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex case portfolios
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation

Desirable

  • Insight into the effects of severe and enduring mental health conditions on individuals and their families

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Understanding of the needs of mental health service users and their families
  • Experience working within a statutory environment

Desirable

  • Willingness to pursue further training, such as AMHP or BIA qualifications

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in managing complex case portfolios
  • Background in a CMHT setting
  • Experience supervising Social Work colleagues
  • Minimum of two years of relevant post-qualifying experience
