Position Overview: The Project Manager will oversee two distinct initiatives within the realm of Engineering Biology. The first initiative is a BBSRC-funded sLoLa program, spearheaded by a leading academic in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This program aims to uncover the fundamental principles governing interactions among microbial community members in environmental microbiomes, ultimately striving to develop predictive methodologies to enhance our understanding and management of microbiome functionality.

The second initiative is an EPSRC-funded project dedicated to establishing a national center and technical training hub for Biomolecule Engineering. This program is collaboratively led by a team of six Senior Technical Specialists and integrates various research technology platforms across biology, chemistry, automation, and computation, fostering a highly interdisciplinary approach to biomolecule engineering. The new facility will offer open access to diverse technology platforms and technical expertise for researchers from both academia and industry, while also establishing a training center for biomolecule engineering through workshops, tailored training, and apprenticeship opportunities.

Key Responsibilities: The Project Manager will be tasked with the comprehensive administration of the Engineering Biology projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the primary liaison with project leaders and industrial partners.
  • Ensuring seamless coordination, execution, and communication of activities across all work packages.
  • Organizing and facilitating:
    • Regular scientific meetings between project teams.
    • Secondments and placements.
    • Interactions with external academic and industrial collaborators.
    • Training workshops and bespoke training programs.
    • Development of online training resources.
  • Establishing a dedicated website to promote the projects and facilitate external access and training requests.
