About the Role

At Nationwide Building Society, our Business Risk Oversight Team plays a vital role in shaping and securing the strategic direction of the organization.

As a Risk Manager, you will be instrumental in both challenging and supporting the business in managing its risks in accordance with regulatory requirements, risk appetite, and the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF). You will work closely with various stakeholders across the organization, including Finance, Product, and Credit teams, to comprehend how they assess and model Nationwide's financial performance, identifying and quantifying key business risks.

Your responsibilities will include facilitating stress testing of the business model through diverse scenarios, which encompass significant regulatory deliverables such as the ACS, ICAAP, Recovery Plan, and Reverse Stress Test (RST), alongside internally generated insight scenarios.

Additionally, you will collaborate with teams throughout Nationwide in the formulation of the Society's strategy and financial plan. Your contributions will be essential in both shaping these plans and overseeing their implementation.

This position is part of the Financial Risk Oversight function, which provides second-line review, challenge, and support across market, liquidity, capital, model, and business risks, as well as offering prudential regulatory guidance. The department is led by the Director of Financial Risk Oversight, who reports to the Chief Risk Officer.

Working Environment

Your Responsibilities

  • Influence risk management by proactively engaging with first-line teams, providing input into risk management proposals, and reviewing first-line outputs.
  • Establish strong working relationships at all levels, enabling you to influence and challenge internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Utilize your inquisitive mindset to understand the broader economic and market landscape and its implications for the Society.
  • Take ownership of issues beyond your direct remit for the benefit of the department and division, prioritizing effectively and maintaining focus under pressure.

About You

  • A finance background with experience in assessing financial risks within a formal regulatory framework, including oversight of financial planning and regulatory stress testing.
  • Strong reasoning skills supported by a logical approach to reviewing, analyzing, and challenging data.
  • Ability to connect various elements using your industry knowledge and awareness of emerging regulatory trends.
