Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our Medical Retina service at the Ophthalmology department of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Medical Retina Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients undergoing intravitreal injections.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work as an expert ophthalmic clinical practitioner, ensuring staff have the necessary skills to care for the designated patient group.
  • Practice autonomously at an advanced clinical level, making critical decisions based on advanced skills assessments.
  • Manage a caseload of patients, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care supported by departmental protocols.
  • Collaborate with the team to establish diagnoses and monitor disease progression.
  • Assess care needs, develop and implement high standards of nursing care.
  • Support patients in decision-making about their treatment and escalate concerns as needed.

Key Requirements
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse (Adult) or recognized Orthoptic or Optometry degree
  • Intravitreal injection course
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Nonmedical prescriber qualification
  • Qualification course in Ophthalmology
  • Evidence of education at masters level or willingness to work towards it
