Job Description

Technical Global Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Edinburgh.

About the Role

  • We are looking for a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer with extensive experience in the construction industry to collaborate on the creation and implementation of mechanical designs.
  • As a key member of our design team, you will work closely with our clients to ensure installations are secure and compliant on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on designs aligned with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requisites.
  • Participate in design team meetings to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Conduct surveys of existing installations as needed to inform design decisions.
  • Generate thermal models for heating/cooling, ventilation load calculations, utilizing industry-specific software.
  • Select and size various equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, among others.
  • Formulate above-ground drainage calculations and system sizing.
  • Choose domestic hot and cold-water equipment and perform necessary calculations.
  • Conduct pipe and duct sizing calculations utilizing industry software or spreadsheets.
  • Develop detailed mechanical layouts and schematics for construction.
  • Ensure timely project delivery and generate comprehensive design and survey reports.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering within the construction industry.
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN Irish, UK standards, or ASHRAE.
  • Proficiency in design software like Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS is necessary.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
