Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Specialist to join our team at Boskalis. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard our vessels.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To be familiar with the technical details of our vessels' construction, machinery, and operating characteristics.
  • Undertake regular checks before departure on a sea passage, ensuring that the vessel is prepared for the voyage, taking into account factors such as stability, stress, trim, and watertight integrity.
  • Report any deficiencies to the Master and Technical Superintendent.
  • Maintain regular inspections of machinery and machinery spaces to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Arrange all transfers of fuel, lubricants, and fresh water.
  • Ensure that all planned maintenance and repair work is carried out, minimizing disruption to the vessel's operations and maximizing the reliability and availability of the plant.
  • Implement measures to prevent pollution of the environment.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of engine room activities, as required by the Company and other authorities.
  • To provide a thorough handover when joining or leaving a vessel.
  • To be fully conversant with Company and Shipboard regulations and policies, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • To be familiar with all safety equipment onboard and participate in safety drills and training to maintain the highest operational standards.
  • To perform any other duties reasonably requested by the Master or the Company.
  • To carry out duties as a GP Rating.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • AEC 1 (and capable of obtaining AEC 2)
  • Nav Watch rating Certificate (hold or be able to obtain)
  • ENG 1
  • Elementary First Aid
  • Basic Fire Fighting
  • Sea Survival Course
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the technical operation of designated equipment
  • Basic knowledge of operational processes
  • Good command of English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety rules
  • Basic skills in ICT Office and fleet management systems
  • Formal Qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline

  • Subject to UK security check (proof of UK residency)
  • Full driving licence
  • Current passport
