The Quantum Research Fellow will engage in pioneering research in the field of quantum science and technology, primarily emphasizing quantum computing.
Compensation:
Salary ranges from STEM 1 Band G £75,136 - £82,649 or STEM 1 Band H £88,094 - £96,903, depending on qualifications and experience.
Contract Duration:
This is a fixed-term position lasting between 3 to 5 years.
Work Schedule:
Full-Time or Part-Time options available (minimum of 18 hours per week for Band G or 15 hours for Band H).
Location:
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire, UK.
About the Organization:
The National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) is a newly established research institution, funded by UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to propelling the advancement of quantum computing by tackling the challenges associated with scaling the technology. The Centre collaborates with businesses, governmental bodies, and the research community to deliver quantum computing capabilities for the UK and foster the growth of the emerging industry. A state-of-the-art facility for the NQCC is set to open in 2024 at Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire, with current activities taking place at various facilities on the Harwell Campus or partner institutions.
Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will undertake a significant research program in quantum science and technology, focusing on a broad spectrum of topics, particularly quantum computing. As a senior scientist, the role will also encompass interests in other STFC research areas beyond computing, such as Quantum Technology for Fundamental Physics, Quantum Materials, Quantum Networking, Distributed Entanglement, and Quantum Timing & Sensing.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Leading innovative research initiatives in quantum science and technology to enhance the UK's capabilities in this critical area.
2. Establishing and maintaining a robust network of international standing in quantum science, providing expertise and value.
3. Contributing to the aspirations of the National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP) regarding talent retention in the UK by building capacity in this research domain.
4. Offering expert guidance to the NQCC and fostering connections between academia, industry, and government in this strategically important field.
