Job Title: Software Systems Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Systems Manager to join our SHE Group at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the delivery and ongoing development of software applications that support and improve STFC's SHE management. This will include the development and delivery of online training solutions, provision of management information, and exploitation of third-party cloud-based software systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery and ongoing development of software applications that support and improve STFC's SHE management.
  • Develop and deliver online training solutions and provide management information.
  • Exploit third-party cloud-based software systems and manage website development.
  • Lead and champion the use of IT solutions to drive improvement in the operational effectiveness of the SHE Group.
  • Review current SHE IT solutions and identify opportunities for development and improvement.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment with STFC's IT corporate architecture.
  • Project manage the implementation and ongoing development of third-party cloud-based software applications.
  • Manage the STFC SHE website and ensure compliance with GDPR and STFC IT security policies.
  • Provide first-line support for the SHE Group in all IT matters.
  • Manage the SHE Group IT budget and forecast future spend.
Requirements
  • Experience in application development and/or customization of third-party IT software.
  • Experience of IT system project implementation across complex organizations.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to analyze IT problems and implement solutions.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or strongly related subject.
  • Experience of at least two of the software systems.
  • ITIL Foundation or prepared to work towards it within the first 12 months.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of agile software development.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience using software testing frameworks.
  • Experience in customer requirements capture, analysis, and specification.
  • Experience in modern, responsive web development.
  • Ability to develop online training packages.
