Key Responsibilities:

The Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining all low voltage electrical and instrumentation systems at our facility. This position requires a diverse set of technical skills and experience, ideally acquired in a high-risk chemical manufacturing environment. The specialist will work with process manufacturing equipment, instrumentation, and automated systems, while also providing support to the Maintenance Manager in planning and executing work activities, implementing technical enhancements, and collaborating with suppliers and contractors. Strong coaching abilities are essential.

Organizational Structure:

This role reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and is an integral part of the maintenance team, working collaboratively to achieve operational excellence.

Work Schedule:

The facility operates five days a week, with shifts scheduled from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The current requirement is for a shift-based role, alternating weekly between two shifts. Flexibility in working hours is necessary to meet business demands, which may include occasional day or weekend work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Upon successful completion of training, the Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for:

Safety:

  • Adhering to all site Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) protocols and improvement initiatives.
  • Conducting Behavioral Safety Observations and providing constructive feedback.
  • Preparing and utilizing Risk Assessments.
  • Addressing safety concerns with colleagues and third parties.
  • Reporting incidents and near misses to management promptly.
  • Proactively suggesting improvements to enhance site safety.
  • Maintaining high standards of site cleanliness and organization.
  • Complying with all relevant electrical regulations.
  • Participating in the site Emergency Response Team.

Service:

  • Proficient in PLC and SCADA programming and maintenance.
  • Maintaining automated packaging machinery.
  • Setting up and servicing instrumentation.
  • Conducting root cause analysis for equipment failures.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to reduce breakdowns and enhance equipment efficiency.
  • Collaborating with suppliers and contractors for maintenance tasks.
  • Documenting repairs and inspections in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.

Cost Savings:

  • Adhering to weekly maintenance schedules and ensuring timely execution of tasks.
  • Providing training to operational staff to enhance equipment performance.
  • Identifying cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Managing small-scale maintenance projects aimed at improvement and cost reduction.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified EC&I technician with a minimum of ONC, NVQ level 3, or equivalent in an EC&I discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in a high-risk chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.
  • COMPEX certification for hazardous area work.
  • Trained in the 18th edition of electrical wiring regulations.
  • Experience with chemical process equipment and automated systems.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of TPM and lean methodologies.
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis techniques.
