Role Overview:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive qualifications and experience as a manual Underwriter within the specialist mortgage sector, having held both Residential and Buy to Let lending mandates for a minimum of two years. A robust understanding of complex lending scenarios is essential.

Successful candidates will demonstrate confidence and sound judgment in their decision-making processes, exhibit meticulous attention to detail, and proactively manage their caseloads, all while striving to deliver an exceptional customer experience and fostering teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and make decisions on complex Residential and BTL mortgage applications, ensuring outstanding customer service.
  • Independently manage a personal caseload in alignment with business priorities, meeting production and quality targets.
  • Adopt a proactive approach to responsible lending, considering applications that fall outside standard lending policies when justified.
  • Adhere to responsibilities related to Consumer Duty, Financial Crime Prevention (including AML), and responsible lending in accordance with company policies.
  • Enhance and maintain knowledge of our mortgage products and bespoke underwriting practices, aligned with Vida's risk appetite and criteria.
  • Assist intermediary partners with their inquiries and support their needs.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in manual underwriting within the specialist mortgage sector, with a solid understanding of the intermediary market and its products.
  • Experience holding a specialist residential and BTL lending mandate for at least two years (a mandate of £500k+ is desirable).
  • In-depth knowledge of complex lending types, including Portfolio Buy to Let, SPVs, New Build, Help to Buy/First Home Fund, Contractors, Ex-Pats, Self-Employed, Credit Repair, HMOs, and MUBs.
  • Awareness of regulations and legislation within the Financial Services sector, demonstrating a solid understanding of Consumer Duty and responsible lending practices.
  • CeMap qualification or equivalent industry certification is preferred.
  • Exhibit a proactive, diligent, and adaptable work ethic, and be a collaborative team player.
  • Proficient in MS Office and credit risk decision systems.
