MDE Consultants Ltd is collaborating with a prominent renewable energy developer with extensive experience in the African market.

Based in the UK, we are recognized as a leader in the advancement of solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage initiatives, utilizing advanced energy technology and controls across sub-Saharan Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct feasibility studies and assist in the design of PV plants and energy assessments.
  • Perform engineering tasks, including drafting, reviewing, and issuing technical design specifications, particularly concerning PV plant electrical infrastructure, single line diagrams (SLDs), and network architecture.
  • Carry out site evaluations and assessments, including audits, quality control, defect documentation, commissioning, and testing.
  • Oversee the commissioning and energization of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) systems, with support from site engineers.
  • Manage design reviews and ensure the proper flow of information and drawings from contractors.
  • Provide technical assistance to Development Managers, Project Management, and Commercial teams on technical issues.
  • Evaluate and compare proposals and deliverables from third-party consultants, including geotechnical, topographical, and grid integration studies, as well as supplier proposals for electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and solar PV components.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (equivalent training and professional experience may be considered in exceptional cases).
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in the energy sector, demonstrating strong electrical and technical engineering skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with hybrid generation systems and technologies, including construction and quality supervision for utility-scale PV plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Proficiency in technical engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD) and strong data analysis capabilities (e.g., MS Excel).
  • Expertise in MS Office and productivity software, including MS Project, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with PVsyst and solar PV modeling software.
  • Broad electrical engineering knowledge, including experience with low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) substations, cable calculations, and transmission line equipment design.
  • Ability to independently research, learn, and pursue professional development.
  • Capacity to contribute to the growth and strengthening of a dynamic organization.
  • Awareness of the renewable energy market, particularly in solar PV and battery storage, along with related concepts and policies.
  • A valid driving license and willingness to travel to Southern Africa.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Powershell.
  • Familiarity with Homer Pro and hybrid system software.
  • Experience with SCADA, industrial control systems, telecommunications systems, TCP/IP networks, cybersecurity, IoT hardware, field hardware devices, and communications protocols.
  • Fluency in languages other than English.
