Position Overview

The role involves performing responsive maintenance and various tasks within the healthcare environment, ensuring operations are conducted efficiently and safely, adhering to relevant regulations and established standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Execute a variety of carpentry-related maintenance activities for healthcare facilities, meeting the required standards in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.

- Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and other relevant legislation to enhance operational efficiency and client satisfaction.

- Primarily work within core technical skills while acquiring new methods and enhancing abilities in related construction trades as necessary, which may include attending training sessions and online learning modules.

- Construct and install various structures, including but not limited to, partitions, doors, window frames, and countertops.

- In addition to primary skills, the individual may be tasked with performing plastering, stud work, tiling, painting, and the disassembly and replacement of ceilings.

- Possess the capability to interpret and execute work orders, blueprints, and specifications accurately.

- Be prepared to work additional hours as required by management, sometimes with little notice.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized CITB craft apprenticeship in Carpentry or a City & Guilds Diploma in Carpentry, or equivalent training that provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Significant relevant experience, ideally encompassing both reactive and preventative maintenance, preferably within a healthcare or public service context, enabling independent work.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in associated building trades applicable to relevant tasks as required (e.g., tiling, painting, locksmithing).
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations, including but not limited to: The Health and Safety at Work Act, Building Regulations, Safe Use of Woodworking Machinery, COSHH, and Working at Height.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Training in Health & Safety, First Aid, etc.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with working in a hospital or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of the application of Health and Safety legislation, ACOPs, guidance, and NHS technical standards.
  • Valid UK driving license (Category B).
