Our clear mission is to facilitate a clean, equitable, and affordable energy future through innovative and responsible supply chain leadership.
About The Role
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Supplier Governance Process & Standards Specialist to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This position will assist the Supplier Governance Process & Standards Manager in crafting the supplier engagement and performance standards, along with the associated processes that will position National Grid as the preferred client for our suppliers.
As we lead the transition to a Net Zero future in the UK and Northeast USA, we acknowledge that decarbonizing our energy systems will require addressing numerous challenges and forming new partnerships, embracing innovative technologies, and making transformative investments. Over the next five years, we plan to invest over £60 billion across our UK and US operations, nearly doubling our previous investment. This pivotal moment in our industry presents significant opportunities for National Grid, marking the beginning of a transformative era that will influence our success for many years to come.
In light of these developments, our supply chains are facing unprecedented challenges and are integral to our strategic plans, placing National Grid Procurement at the heart of our Net Zero objectives. We have outlined an ambitious transformation strategy focused on becoming the preferred client for our supply partners while ensuring exceptional outcomes for our Business Units (BUs). Our strategy is centered around three key areas:
- Collaboration: We are strengthening our partnerships with our supply chain, aligning closely with each National Grid Group Business Unit (BU).
- Scale: We are leveraging the vast scale of our organization to unlock greater potential. By harnessing our collective capabilities, we can achieve remarkable results.
- Operational Innovation: We are transforming our operational practices. By adopting new methodologies and technologies, we are streamlining processes to enhance efficiency in our daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a vital role in shaping National Grid's supplier segmentation strategy, developing, refining, and maintaining the processes and standards for strategic supplier engagement, vendor management, and contract oversight.
- Oversee the delivery and ongoing enhancement of a robust supplier segmentation framework, ensuring that our approach adapts to evolving supplier dynamics.
- Establish the standards and processes for supplier engagement across all tiers of National Grid's supply chain, collaborating with Strategic Supplier Engagement (SSE), Supply Chain Risk and Performance, and Market Supplier Development teams.
- Assist in formulating comprehensive supplier strategies for strategic suppliers, incorporating insights from various teams (e.g., Sustainability, Supply Chain Risk) and aligning with business objectives.
- Develop and continuously enhance training programs for the defined supplier standards process across the broader Procurement function.
- Collaborate with the procurement digital team to identify, develop, and implement technologies that drive ongoing improvements in this area.
- Support the 'Voice of the Supplier' initiatives, generating insights to inform action plans aimed at enhancing National Grid's market perception as a 'Client of Choice.'
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of an effective supplier governance plan and reporting framework, ensuring that appropriate controls and KPIs are applied to supplier performance, risks, costs, and relationships by category team.
About You
- Exceptional stakeholder and supplier management abilities, with the capacity to influence at all levels within National Grid and externally with suppliers' executives and senior leaders.
- Strong knowledge of commercial models and techniques essential for achieving best-in-class supplier engagement to facilitate improvements across multiple suppliers.
- Proven negotiation skills, with a comprehensive understanding of contract law and experience in managing procurement activities to deliver value.
- Ability to analyze KPIs and contract data, demonstrating strong attention to detail and the capability to assist category teams in mitigating commercial risks and managing contract performance.
- Good understanding of National Grid's broader business objectives and their implications for category management in both regional and group contexts.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and make informed decisions or recommendations based on incomplete information.
What You'll Receive
A competitive salary range between £46,415 and £58,760, depending on your capabilities.
In addition to your base salary, you will be eligible for a performance-based bonus and a competitive contributory pension scheme, where we will double match your contributions up to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to various flexible benefits, including a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, employee assistance programs, and matched charity contributions.
