About the Role
Methods is a £100M+ IT Services Consultancy who has partnered with a range of central government departments and agencies to transform the way the public sector operates in the UK. We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Platform Engineer (On-Prem/Cloud) Consultant to join our team on a permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and support the infrastructure that underpins the platforms, applications, and data which support the business.
- Automate where possible to facilitate the rapid delivery of approved capabilities to their respective environments in a secure manner.
- Design and implement secure infrastructure solutions using Infrastructure as Code.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that development and delivery follows established processes and works as intended.
- Plan and manage projects, ensuring that risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented.
- Integrate security features into the software development life cycle.
- Monitor the infrastructure and the threat to security.
- Ensure regulatory compliances for standards of security.
Requirements
- Proven experience in developing and managing infrastructure for on-prem and cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of security principles and practices, including the NCSC secure design principles.
- Experience with automation tools, such as Ansible, Terraform, and YAML.
- Knowledge of containerization platforms, such as Kubernetes, PKS, and Docker.
- Experience with functional and non-functional testing.
- Understanding of the government digital service (GDS) manual and standards across Discovery/Alpha/Beta/Live phases.
- Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS technologies, and the implications of their use compared with bespoke development.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with multiple teams, especially security.
- Solid infrastructure design experience for on-prem environments to implement or migrate applications and databases.
- Experience with hybrid designs between on-premise and cloud.
- Strong experience in software development change/release management processes and technical governance.
- Ability to work with containerization platforms, provisioning software, and application/infrastructure/data performance analysis and monitoring.
