Job Title: Import Customs Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Import Customs Specialist to join our team at WR Logistics. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth clearance of goods into the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and manage customs entries, accurately entering data into our customs software to submit entries promptly.
  • Sign and complete customs documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients.
  • Recognize and extract data from client commercial invoices and packing lists.
  • Create import declarations using customs software, allowing goods to enter the UK and deliver to consignees.
  • Track and monitor declaration status, liaising with importers and internal colleagues to obtain mandatory information for import entries.
  • Be fully conversant with CDS, NCTS, GVMS, IPAFFS, and other regulatory platforms.
  • Allocate the correct licenses depending on the type of goods being imported.
  • Calculate and process taxes and duties to be paid by buyers of goods.
  • Apply duty refunds and tariff reclassification as appropriate, and assist with any appeals that may arise.
  • Be fully conversant with import customs regulations, keeping up to date with changes as they occur.
  • Inform customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, and all other customs-related matters.
  • Process import documentation, T-documents, EUR1's, Certificates of Origin, PAOA, HRFNAO, and other cargo control documents.
  • Liaise with Port Health, Border Force, and HMRC officials on document checks, goods quarantine, and other matters.
  • Arrange the release of goods from Customs-approved sites and/or port of arrival, liaising with internal colleagues on release, transport, and warehousing issues.
  • Liaise with all stakeholders, dealing with queries effectively and efficiently, and providing guidance and support on the latest customs procedures and requirements.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in an import customs role.
  • Ability to comfortably complete 75+ entries per week.
  • Good understanding of customs legal requirements and the impact of incorrect information and/or customs declarations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Complex problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivating with the ability to organize your workload effectively.
  • Ability to operate Windows-based applications and other software standard within the industry.
  • Knowledge of HMRC compliance and regulation is desirable.
