Tenant Farming Commissioner Role at the Scottish Land Authority (SLA)
The Scottish Land Authority (SLA) operates as an independent public entity, established to advance the objectives outlined in the Land Reform legislation. The SLA plays a pivotal role in the Scottish Government's vision to ensure that land use contributes to the economic and sustainable development of the nation. The Authority comprises several Land Commissioners, including a designated Tenant Farming Commissioner (TFC), all appointed by government officials and endorsed by the legislative body.
The primary function of the SLA is to foster innovative approaches to land ownership and utilization in Scotland, while providing ongoing counsel to the government regarding land reform initiatives. In addition to offering insights and recommendations for legislative and policy frameworks, the SLA leads efforts to transform cultural practices and compliance across Scotland, promoting exemplary practices in line with the Land Rights and Responsibilities Statement.
The SLA's jurisdiction encompasses all land within Scotland, addressing both urban and rural issues related to land ownership, rights, management, and usage, as well as the associated strategies for land use and environmental sustainability.
The government is seeking to appoint a new Tenant Farming Commissioner. The Authority values diverse experiences and perspectives on its boards and encourages individuals from various backgrounds to consider this public appointment. Applications are particularly welcomed from women, individuals with disabilities, members of the LGBT+ community, ethnic minorities, younger candidates, and those from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Compensation and Commitment
With the consent of government officials, the Authority will provide compensation and reimbursements for legitimate expenses incurred while fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.
The current daily rate for the Tenant Farming Commissioner position is set at £224.48, with an expected commitment of approximately 8 days per month. This rate is subject to annual review.
The appointment does not include pension benefits.
