Job Description

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior DBase Developer to join our team at Outsourced Professional Administration Limited (OPAL). As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing new and existing systems, as well as enhancing and modifying existing systems to meet the technical specifications and change requests received.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Development: Analyze technical specifications and develop/modify in-house systems accordingly.
  • System Enhancements: Develop system changes and execute installations of developed systems using in-house standard practices.
  • Gap Analysis: Understand, investigate, and produce gap analysis for change requests.
  • Technical Specifications: Assist in the provision of accurate technical specifications for third-party products.
  • System Errors: Investigate and resolve system errors and crashes.
  • Bug Resolution: Resolve allocated bugs/change requests/errors and other helpdesk jobs as allocated.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation detailing the company's development methodology and 'house style', which will be used as a training aid.
  • Collaboration: Provide support and assistance to other developers as required.
  • Training: Participate in the provision of relevant training as and when required.
  • Process Improvement: Analyze requests and make recommendations for more efficient ways of achieving the desired systems output.
  • System Performance: Enhance systems for increased automation opportunities, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Client Communication: Discuss client requirements and proposed solutions with the IT team or our clients.
  • Testing and Handover: Create testing handover documents.
  • Status Updates: Provide regular status updates to senior management and project team.
  • Project Governance: Provide input to project delivery governance and development project plans.
  • Business Solutions: Be able to take outcomes and business problems and recommend development solutions.
  • Meetings and Liaison: Attend internal and external client-facing meetings and liaise with other departments.
  • Compliance: Support and work in accordance with OPAL's ISO27001 and TCF policies and procedures.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Legacy Technology: Excellent knowledge of DBase 5 Novell, DOS, and Linux or other appropriate legacy technology.
  • Requirements Gathering: Experience in requirements gathering and solution writing.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Development Lead Experience: Development Lead experience.
  • Development and Project Lifecycles: Understand the development and project lifecycles.
  • Pressurized Environment: Ability to work, at times, in a pressurized and fast-moving environment and accurately record time.
  • High-Quality Development Work: High quality of development work.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to change with a flexible approach.
  • Financial Services Industry Experience: Experience of working within the Financial Services Industry an advantage.

Additional Knowledge Required:

  • OPAL House Standard Practices: Understanding of and the ability to develop in OPAL house standard practices.
  • Single Premium and Regular Premium Products: Preferred knowledge of single premium and regular premium products.
  • FSA Competency: FSA competent.
  • ISO27001 Knowledge: Acquire and implement knowledge and awareness of ISO27001.

  • Quality Developments: Responsible for the delivery of quality developments, to house standard that meets the needs of the client.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrate a professional, collaborative, and supportive approach to colleagues.

Output Responsibility:

  • Compliance: Compliance with industry and statutory regulation.
  • System Development Rules: Responsibility for producing system development rules and ensuring adherence to them.
  • Practices and Procedures: Responsibility for developing and maintaining practices and procedures, ensuring that these are implemented in a consistent manner with the appropriate level of controls.
