Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant in Early Years

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in the Early Years Foundation Stage of a primary school in Barking and Dagenham. The successful candidate will work 1:1 with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and provide support to the teaching staff in delivering high-quality education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with ASD, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Assist the teaching staff in planning and delivering lessons, adapting materials to meet the needs of students with ASD.
  • Monitor and record student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and contributing to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with the teaching staff, other support staff, and external agencies to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to supporting students with ASD.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with ASD.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of special educational needs, particularly autism.
  • Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting.
  • Ability to set clear boundaries, manage behavior, and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of students with ASD.
