Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Acute Medicine department at North Manchester Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Consultant to join our team. As a Consultant in Acute Medicine, you will be responsible for providing senior medical support to our 53 Medical Assessment Units bed split across 2 wards and our Ambulatory Care Unit.

The post will include weekend daytime sessions 1:8. We welcome imaginative and innovative ways of addressing the demands in acute medical care. The service actively encourages 1.5 PAs of sessions in other specialties such as:

  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Care of the Elderly - Frailty sessions
  • Diabetes and Endocrine
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Other specialty sessions at MFT can also be explored.

We are looking for clinicians who may wish to take up roles in the following areas as part of their job plans to facilitate their further development:

  • Medical leadership (clinical lead)
  • Medical education
  • Service improvement
  • Incidents & governance
About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the development of our Acute Medicine department. As a Consultant in Acute Medicine, you will have the opportunity to work with a large multidisciplinary team of junior trainees, clinical fellows, ACPs and a dedicated physiotherapy, occupational therapy and NMP pharmacy team for our unit.

We are part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, which unites multiple hospitals and providers of community services. MFT delivers care to approximately 750,000 people across 10 hospital sites. We are changing the way care is delivered to address health inequalities in our region.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB)
  • Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to practice
  • On the Specialist Register, holding CCT or expect to do within 6 months of interview
  • The appointee will hold the MRCP or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
Desirable Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A higher degree e.g., MD is desirable
  • Attendance at Advanced communication skills or similar course
  • Appropriate Home Office status to undertake a career post in the UK
  • Clinical expertise in Acute Medicine and broad knowledge of general medicine
  • Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments (desirable)
  • Evidence of teaching and training experience to support clinical supervisor status
Skills and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Evidence of organisational and clinical leadership skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Clinical Governance understanding
  • Clinical expertise in a specialist area of Acute Medicine
