Job Title: Children's Senior Designer

We are seeking an experienced Children's Senior Designer to join our team at Thames & Hudson. As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for designing and managing our expanding list of non-fiction, picture, novelty, and activity books for children.

About the Role

As a Children's Senior Designer, you will collaborate closely with our editorial team and Children's Art Director to create outstanding covers and layouts for our books. You will also be responsible for discovering, commissioning, and nurturing illustration talent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpreting briefs and producing creative and effective designs for the target age group
  • Driving projects through all stages of design from initial brief to final print
  • Shaping new development ideas
  • Ensuring artwork is set up flawlessly, with files suitable for co-editions
  • Working closely with the Production team to coordinate reprographic work
Requirements
  • Expert in Adobe CC suite
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • The ability to transform text supplied by an editor into an appealing visual book layout
  • Confident in communicating ideas within the creative team
  • Proven ability to roughly sketch and plot out ideas prior to commissioning an illustrator
  • Experience discovering and commissioning new and established illustrators
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to feedback
  • Ability to multitask and manage new development leading up to a book fair
  • Solid working experience of the printing process and cover finishes
  • Excellent artworking skills to provide print-ready files
  • An awareness of current design trends and approaches in children's publishing
