Our dedicated team located in Chippenham is seeking qualified social workers to join us in a fulfilling role where you will significantly influence the lives of at-risk children and families.

As a Child Welfare Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting Wiltshire's vulnerable youth, ranging from pre-birth to 18 years of age. We utilize a patch-based approach, aligning families with your expertise and designated area.

Job Duties

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary caseworker for children in need, those requiring protection, and looked-after children, depending on the team’s focus.
  • Overseeing the daily interpretation and execution of statutory duties and departmental policies in delivering services to children and young people.
  • Receiving assignments from the team manager or designated personnel based on eligibility criteria and managing case responsibilities.
  • Conducting inquiries and assessing the needs and risks faced by vulnerable children and young people promptly, considering the wishes and views of the child and their family.
  • Taking appropriate measures to assess and mitigate any identified concerns or risks to children and young people in accordance with assessment frameworks and child protection procedures.
  • Collaborating with children, young people, and their families/carers to develop and implement plans addressing identified issues, ensuring social work intervention is only maintained when necessary.
  • Regularly reviewing individual plans, documenting outcomes, and formulating revised plans focused on results.
  • Organizing core group meetings to assist in the implementation and review of plans for vulnerable children.
  • Preparing reports for child protection conferences, planning meetings, looked-after children reviews, legal meetings, and court hearings, and attending as required.
  • Employing a creative approach to meet needs and ensuring local resources are utilized effectively.
  • Understanding and managing financial constraints in service delivery.
  • Proactively collaborating with other agencies to plan and deliver coordinated services that promote positive outcomes for children, young people, and their families/carers.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records of information and actions taken during casework.
  • Contributing to team and departmental performance targets to achieve favorable outcomes for children and young people.
  • Upholding confidentiality regarding information acquired during the execution of duties while cooperating with other agencies to ensure appropriate safeguarding of children.
  • Actively participating in team processes by attending meetings and fulfilling necessary team responsibilities.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of service delivery through the sharing of knowledge and skills.
  • Taking charge of personal professional development through relevant research, legislation, supervision, and appraisal processes.
  • Engaging in further training aligned with individual and organizational needs, as agreed with management.
