Position Overview

H9 Technical Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Energy Facility Operator to oversee the operations at our client's Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and monitoring the functionality of the boilers and turbine to ensure optimal steam generation.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Duties:
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics by operating the plant's turbine and boilers, while coordinating the management of incoming and outgoing waste.
  • Maintain consistent control by measuring temperature, flow, and pressure readings from the turbine and boiler, utilizing control systems and gauges.
  • Accurately document readings and log daily operations in the shift log for ongoing monitoring and seamless shift transitions.
  • Respond effectively to both planned and unplanned repairs, blockages, and changes within the plant's central systems.
  • Act promptly to system alarms and protocols to secure designated areas of the facility as necessary.
  • Oversee all areas of the plant from the control room, including operating the overhead crane for systematic waste removal and accessing various plant areas to check instruments and gauges.
  • Fulfill the role of Plant Attendant when required, which includes loading and unloading vehicles and operating Forklift Trucks (FLT) for handling Big Bags.
  • Ensure compliance with plant cleaning schedules to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces as needed.

Health & Safety:
  • Uphold a high standard of housekeeping throughout the facility at all times.
  • Exhibit safe working practices in accordance with the Company's Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate actively in fire drills and evacuation exercises.
  • Report any violations of statutory and MESE safe working practices to the appropriate management levels, including accidents and incidents.
  • Work towards becoming the designated person within the Company's Permit to Work (PTW) system.
  • Identify and recommend necessary updates to Plant Operating Instructions (POIs) and Risk Assessments.
  • Foster and maintain strong working relationships across all departments.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience or understanding of operating boiler and steam turbine facilities is advantageous.
  • Experience and qualifications in operating Forklift Trucks (FLT) and Front-Loading Shovel (FLS) vehicles are also beneficial.
  • A current first aid qualification is desirable.
