Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality of assigned deliverables.
  • Comply with specified requirements, codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Attain customer technical requirements.
  • Develop safe, legally compliant engineering solutions.
  • Collate, document, and review requirements.
  • Plan and execute engineering and design activities.
  • Produce design quality plans and ensure work is undertaken in accordance with relevant quality arrangements.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager in generating and maintaining project plans and deliverable schedules.
  • Identify resource requirements and request resources as needed.
  • Report progress of engineering deliverables against specified work plans.
  • Source ideas and innovation from multiple sources.
  • Identify applicable legislation and ensure compliance.
  • Produce engineering documentation to influence and provide evidence of the design process.
  • Develop technical specifications that define the totality of requirements for engineering solutions.
  • Assess specific elements that contribute to equipment design and document justification.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify, evaluate, and mitigate hazards by design.
  • Ensure configuration of baseline deliverables is accurately maintained.
  • Support the production of technical information in tenders.
  • Be the key point of contact with customer stakeholders and build collaborative relationships.
  • Identify requirements for, and organise and undertake design reviews.

Requirements:

  • Degree with honours or level 6 equivalent (ideally).
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
  • Several years' experience working in design engineering.
  • A number of years' experience working within a highly regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear).
  • Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft Office software.
  • Competent in the use of CAD software and digital tools.
  • Understands and can apply the company management system.
  • Understands and can apply design codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Understands and can apply law (Acts and Regulations), codes of practice, and designated standards.
  • Breadth of demonstrable experience of design and detailing of plant and equipment.
  • Understands the NEC suite of contracts, change control methodology, and common project management practices.
  • Breadth of experience of respective discipline (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Demonstrable capability of supervision for a small team of engineers and designers.
  • Commercial understanding, budgeting, and cost control, reporting practices.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for activities and events.
  • Provide leadership within an engineering department and act as a custodian of resource and expertise.
