Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Academic Student Adviser at Cardiff University. As an Adviser, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional support to students, ensuring they receive a welcoming and inclusive experience.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide high-quality support to students, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  2. Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of services, sharing knowledge and expertise to enhance student experience.
  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to promote student wellbeing, academic success, and personal growth.
  4. Use electronic systems to record, monitor, and respond to student interactions, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  5. Participate in team meetings, training, and planning days to share ideas and best practices, promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
  6. Adhere to university policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  7. Perform other duties as required, contributing to the overall success of the team and the university.

Requirements

  • NVQ 2/GCSE level A-C or equivalent, with excellent written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role, with a strong ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite and in-house systems, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional weekend shifts, to ensure student access to services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude towards diversity and inclusion.

Working Arrangements

Advisers will work shifts to ensure student access to services, Monday to Friday, 08:00-20:00, with occasional weekend shifts. Out-of-term hours are Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00. Advisers are expected to wear a uniform while on duty.
